Gift of machine helps Metrolite keep the pressure on

VEKA fabricator Metrolite Industries is keeping production up to speed, thanks to the donation of a new compressor from manufacturer Ingersoll Rand.
Metrolite, a part of Wigan Metropolitan Council, needed a new £5,000 compressor to power its fabrication machinery after one of its two existing units broke down.
Ingersoll Rand had donated the original compressors when the facility was set up 30 years ago, and knew of its contribution to the local community, so the manufacturer stepped in again to donate the replacement machine.
Metrolite holds Supported Workshop status, providing employment and training for local people with disabilities. As well as fabricating VEKA frames, it also makes park and garden furniture from recycled plastic and was recently commended by TV environmentalist David Bellamy for its work.
Ingersoll Rand’s Regional Marketing Manager Nick Harman called in to sign over the new compressor.
Metrolite General Manager Tom Milner said: “This really is a lifeline for us. Virtually every machine in the factory runs on compressed air and we couldn’t have gone on forever with the remaining compressor.”
Wigan Council Leader Lord Peter Smith added: “We are very grateful to Ingersoll Rand for its kind donation. It really does show that big multi-national businesses can play a big part in helping us to achieve our goal of supporting the most vulnerable members of our community.”
